I'm Shu Matsuo Post

How I got here… I’m Japanese, but for years I never invested in Japan. That all changed when I bought my first akiya (vacant home). I was hooked, and soon started Post FI to help others do the same. In 18 months, I helped over 100 people successfully purchase a home in Japan and start living their dream! You can learn about their amazing journeys here on my channel. Now, I’ve co-founded and launched AkiyaHub to help thousands more.

The truth is, the window to buy these overlooked properties won’t stay open forever. Prices are still low, renovation support is still available, and more people are discovering the opportunity every day. That’s a recipe for rising demand and shrinking supply. I want to help as many people as possible who love Japan and want to be part of revitalizing it before this door closes.

Our initial experience trying to buy a home in Japan included two realtors. We interviewed with the first gentleman for an hour during a visit to Japan. We never heard from him again. I contacted the second realtor online. We gave him our parameters and price expectations. He would only send us high priced real estate. We later figured out that was due to a commissioned based system. Realtors in Japan are not always the most motivated to help foreigners buy homes. There is an extra layer of work translating and explaining what is transpiring during the transaction. There is also the transfer of cash that must occur to close the sale. Foreigners cannot have a Japanese bank account unless they have specific type of VISA. I contacted Akiya Hub blindly not expecting to get a reply from them. Ivan replied and set up an interview with Shu. After the interview we made arrangements for me to travel to Japan to search for our new home. There are two videos on YouTube documenting our home search and purchase. Shu and his staff were helpful in all aspects from the property closure to the remodel that was recently performed this summer. It is incredibly dofficult navigating the Japanese culture with no experience. Shu and Akiya Hub made it possible. Hands down.
